Dr Samantha Mooney
Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist and AGES-accredited minimally invasive surgeon
MBBS(Hons), MRepMed, FRANZCOG
Sam is a highly skilled gynaecologist & fertility specialist, with advanced training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Sam provides specialised care at Mercy Hospital for Women, Epworth Healthcare, Warringal Hospital and Genea Fertility.
Sam completed training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in metropolitan and regional Victoria before undertaking a two-year advanced gynaecological surgical fellowship (AGES) from 2018 to 2019, resulting in accreditation as an advanced laparoscopic & hysteroscopic gynaecological surgeon. She was awarded the AGES/Hologic® Travelling Fellowship for Hysteroscopic Surgery in 2020, and the AGES/Medtronic Best Free Communication also in 2020.
Sam is an early career researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne with interests in endometriosis, persistent pelvic pain, and infertility. She has assisted with establishing new prospective databases for multidisciplinary management of deep infiltrating endometriosis, and outpatient hysteroscopic procedures. Sam is the principal investigator leading several exciting and innovative multi-centre research studies in benign gynaecology, presenting her work nationally and internationally, most recently at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Annual Scientific Meeting in Adelaide (2025), and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Global Congress in Vancouver (2025).
Sam is a current Board Member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Society, and an active member of the Research Committee at the Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre of Excellence (Epworth Healthcare). Sam supports medical students and junior doctors at Mercy Hospital for Women through her roles as a clinical and research supervisor.
Sam is mum to two young and spirited children, and tries her best to keep up with what’s ‘cool’ in the world of primary school. (Her kids may argue against her success with this!)
When not at work, Sam and her husband enjoy weekend adventures in the outdoors, and are often seen exploring Melbourne’s surrounds, with the kids in a Dutch cargo bike. The family dog, Pinot (Noir), also deserves a mention, providing infinite furry cuddles after the workday is done.
